The benefits of living in a modern
"automated" home are numerous and go far beyond mere
convenience. If you are like many of the people we have worked with,
it may be that your ideas about home automation as much influenced by the
1960's cartoon world of the Jetsons as they are by any reality-based
information. Main stream media seems to focus on what they apparently
think is "sexy", i.e., "talking appliances" (do you
really want your refrigerator to tell you when to buy milk?).
If you think about life in our "post-Jetson" society, what is
really going on is a disconnect between those who have grown up with
computer-based technologies and those who haven't. While the former
tend to embrace the notion of a PC "running" their home, the
latter have a tendency to envision a "Rosie gone wild" scenario.
Fortunately, for the serious
client there does exist a small group of dedicated integration
professionals like ourselves who are willing to put considerable time and
effort into educating their clients about the value added aspects of
installing a state-of-the-art automation system in their existing or
planned new home. In general we have found that as our clients'
understanding of what is possible grows so do their ideas and enthusiasm
for how these technologies can serve their specific needs. It truly
